David Gedge

David Gedge (born David Lewis Gedge, 23 April 1960 in Bramley, Leeds, West Yorkshire, England) is an English musician and songwriter. He is the main songwriter and vocalist in the bands The Wedding Present and Cinerama. He sang a duet with Marine Research on their 1999 Peel Session.

Early life

He grew up in north Manchester in the area known as Top of Hebers, attending Hollin High School (became the Queen Elizabeth High School and is now the re-built St Anne's Academy) on Hollin Lane (A6046) in Middleton (in the borough of Rochdale) near Hopwood Hall College and junction 19 of the M62. He studied Maths at the University of Leeds, graduating with a 2.1 BSc in 1981. He met Keith Gregory, an English student, by placing an advert for a bass player in the university union. Shaun Charman, the drummer, graduated in Economics in 1986.

He actually grew up in Boarshaw, Middleton near the cemetery.
